Netheredge is the set of provinces - Caen and the Northern Lands - which remain unconquered by the Callisto Empire, a great and sprawling power recently turned brutal under the Emperor Queece.

Why Nethereredge has not fallen to the march of the empire is unclear, but it is often considered to be due to the proximity of Netheredge to the Perpetua Mountains, home of the inhuman, magical fae. Bow, the land that borders Perpetua is thought to be full of mysterious, untamable magic - though the fae left Bow for the mountains years ago.

The people of Netheredge are wary of the fae. And rightly so. Fae do not care for their human neighbours. Interactions with them have been deadly and remain a deep taboo.

Once, it is said, Goren, the great magician of the north, travelled from Bow into Perpetua to learn the fae magic. He did not return with the magic he wanted. He was lucky to return at all. But what he did bring back with him, would change the world.
